RecapTube has no accounts and collects as little as it can. In short: we don’t know who you are, and we don’t track you across the web.

What the bookmark sends

When you click the RecapTube bookmark on a YouTube video, it sends us that video’s ID, title, channel name, length, and captions. It doesn’t read or send anything about your YouTube or Google account, your watch history, or other tabs.

What we store

• Videos and summaries. The video details and captions above, and the summaries written from them. Summaries are public pages and may appear in search engines. Captions are kept to write summaries in other languages and aren’t shown to visitors.
• Usage counters. To enforce daily limits we count requests per visitor using a one-way hash of your IP address. The hash changes every day, so days can’t be linked together, and we never store the IP address itself.
• Unsupported videos. When someone tries an age-restricted video we record its ID and title, not who tried it.

Cookies and local storage

• lang cookie: remembers your summary language, for one year, only if you choose one.
• theme in your browser’s local storage: remembers light or dark mode if you switch it.

We use no advertising or tracking cookies today. If we add ads later, this page will say so first, and we’ll ask for consent where the law requires it.

Services we rely on

• Cloudflare hosts the site and stores its data. Like any web host, it processes your IP address to deliver pages.
• Google Gemini receives a video’s captions to write its summary. Nothing about you is sent.
• Google Fonts and YouTube’s image servers deliver the font and video thumbnails, so your browser contacts them directly.
